Depression

Are you feeling low and that life is a struggle? Read on…

How depression works

When you’re depressed, everything feels like a struggle. People experiencing depression describe struggling with difficult emotions such as:

  • Sadness.
  • Guilt.
  • Pain and loss.

But people also describe struggling with the absence of feelings – experiencing emptiness or numbness.

When your mood is low it’s hard to care about things – even the things that you actually care a lot about – and it becomes difficult to do the very things that used to bring you pleasure and fulfilment.

When you are depressed you tend to view other people as more successful than you, as having life ‘sorted’, and you may wonder if you will ever feel that way again. You may even have thoughts about taking your own life, but you’re afraid to tell anyone.

You want to be able to let go of this constant struggle and find a sense of contentment. You want to have the energy, motivation and confidence to go after the things that are important to you and feel like you are really living your life.

How I work with depression

I provide a supportive, caring space for you to learn how to re-engage with life.

I will listen to you, treat you gently with care and respect so that you can share things you may have found too difficult to share so far. Together we will work to help you understand the root cause of your depression, to find ways of working through what is troubling you and to identify new ways of coping.

We will take small steps so that your body and mind can cope with any changes that you decide to make. This approach can empower you to start navigating your way through what might feel like a dark place into a brighter, more hopeful future.

I will be there to support and guide you on your journey.
