How physical discomfort works
The body is the map of the mind and holds information about each person’s history. This happens because our bodies contain information about our reactions to life events, so how we are physically reflects our past and present emotional states. In other words physical ailments, ie illness and injuries affect how we think and feel and how we think and feel affects our bodies.
We often don’t realise how closely our body and emotions are connected and so we don’t realise when they are out of balance. When they are out of balance mental and physical problems often occur, sometimes immediately, sometimes months or even years later.
Emotions that have been held in for a length of time often manifest in physical conditions, illness or injury.
How I work with physical discomfort
Body Psychotherapy enables the body and mind to become aligned once again, reconnecting and integrating the physical aspects of you. It can relieve long held tensions in the body, often linked to prior life events, by bringing these connections to awareness via body awareness, movement, talk and therapeutic touch.
You will have the opportunity to become aware of and understand what your body is telling you and how your body links to your emotional state.
All the bodily systems are closely integrated with each other and work harmoniously together. Physical discomfort or pain occurs when we are physically and emotionally out of balance, having body awareness allows us to recognise when we are becoming out of balance and to rebalance safely.
As you start to become more aware of your body’s hidden messages, you gain control of your reactions, and emotional and physical wellbeing. This knowledge can enable you to get to the root of unexplained physical pain and allow you to make choices to live a more content life.
Do ensure that you have seen your GP to rule out any medical related issues first.
